Lovable Anna Kendrick hopes to bring the lovable Squirrel Girl to the big screen

Anna Kendrick has revealed her love of the Marvel comic book character Squirrel Girl after she was asked if their was any superhero role she’d like to play, saying:

“My brother sent me a Squirrel Girl comic because he thinks I should [play her]. I don’t know what Squirrel Girl does other than be half squirrel, but I could be half squirrel!”

With Anna Kendrick having played some quirky, odd characters in the past, I can totally see her personality aligning with Doreen Green, a.k.a Squirrel Girl. For those unfamiliar, she’s a recently popular Marvel heroine with the ability to control squirrels and took down Thanos with said army.

Yes, that Thanos.

Squirrel Girl’s creation arose from character conceptualizer Will Murray wanting to write a lighthearted superhero story as opposed to the often heavily dramatic tales that were the norm in mainstream comics at the time. She moved to New York City to fight crime, earning the title of “Central Park’s greatest protector”. Green was then recruited for the Great Lakes Avengers after defeating Doctor Doom with her army of squirrels. It was determined the Great Lakes Avengers all contained mutant powers instead, and were rebranded under the Great Lakes X-Men.

Squirrel Girl has some of the sillier powers in the Marvel Comic Universe, including the ability to communicate with squirrels, super strength, a 3-4 foot prehensile tail, claws, a heightened sense of smell, and teeth that can chew through wood.

In thanks to graphic artist @BossLogic, he brought us a potential look of what Anna Kendrick could look like as Squirrel Girl in a movie.

But while many actors/actresses have taken to Twitter or other forms of social media to express their interests in playing a certain hero, Kendrick’s desire to play Green seems to have created quite a stir on the Internet. Will Marvel fit a Squirrel Girl movie into their already packed schedule? Will we potentially see Monkey Joe or Tippy Toe on the big screen?
