A trailer for the game “The First Tree” just dropped today, coming from the creator of “Home is Where One Starts”. Taken from their YouTube trailer description, The First Tree “is a third-person exploration game centered around two parallel stories: a fox trying to find her missing family, and a young couple dealing with a tragedy in theirs. Players take control of the fox on a poignant and beautiful journey that crescendos at the source of life, and perhaps results in the understanding of death. Along the way, players uncover artifacts and stories from the young couple’s life as they too become intertwined in the fox’s journey towards The First Tree.”
The art style of this game is stunningly gorgeous, taking a minimalistic take to the survival genre that comes to me as a cross between “Journey” and “The Long Dark”. Indie games love this type of art style, and fans have shown warm receptions to games like this in the past.
According to the dev’s official website, the game is expected to be an hour or two long, with the yet-to-be determined price point revolving around how long it ends up playing. The game is coming to PC and Macintosh operating systems, with no planned release for consoles and Linux yet. The game will be released in 2017.
