Battlefront 2 also had its time in the spotlight during EA’s press conference yesterday, showing off new gameplay and characters. Most exciting however, might be the single-player campaign that is considered to be canon (official Star Wars lore) and set to explore what happened between Return of the Jedi and The Force Awakens.
Multiplayer will also get a large overhaul in comparison to the first, with the largest change promising multiplayer matches in any of the three Star Wars movie eras; the prequels, original trilogy, and the more recent releases including The Force Awakens and The Last Jedi. Multiplayer matches also promise to offer many more options for customization, starting with a class system. In addition, EA also showed off the ability to play as Battle Droids and Clone Troopers. Players can choose between four unique classes, including specialists, infantry, or heavy infantry. Individual characters will be customizable in the future, and EA’s classic microtransaction system will be present in the form of spending real money on packs of cards that the player can then use to upgrade their characters.
However, EA will also add free DLC packages later for different storylines in the Star Wars universe, starting with the upcoming movie The Last Jedi, set to release in theaters later this year. The DLC will feature recent characters including Finn and Captain Phasma as playable characters and the planet of Crait as a new map. It is a large departure from EA’s usual strategy, given that there won’t be a season pass for future installments of DLC, but will let everyone experience the game more fully.
Star Wars: Battlefront II releases on November 17th, 2017, for the Xbox One, PS4, and PC. Check out the gameplay trailer below and let us know what you think.
